New Mexico Musician Randy
Granger Puts Southwest Into His Music
A PLACE CALLED PEACE
Randy Granger paints a vivid soundscape of his homeland, the American Southwest, on his fourth album featuring Native American wood flute. Although also a singer-guitarist (on one song here) and drummer/percussionist (on four other tunes), Granger has really made a name for himself as a first-class Native flute player. Apparently it is in his genes because he is descended from various New Mexico and Old Mexico tribes (Chol, Athabascan, Apache, Comanche and Dogrib). He pays tribute to these tribes and his heritage not only by playing wood flute and drums, but also with the tune titles ("Ghost Dancers" and "Apache Tears") and the innate Native spirituality and sacredness on each piece. This is all acoustic (not synthesized) music that is warm, heartfelt and deeply-moving in its passion and purity.
